The research is clear — full-day pre-K prepares students for success in school and beyond. Access to pre-K in Texas was limited, and the State only funded about half of what schools needed to operate optional pre-K programs for eligible students. Texas provided inconsistent grant funding to schools, which prevented school districts from being able to fully commit to annual pre-K programs. Funding was like a yo-yo, up and down, up and down. So we took that metaphor and ran with it for a multi-faceted campaign to generate awareness, engage stakeholder groups and advocates, interest the media, and convince lawmakers to revisit their on-again, off-again support for what most Texans, educators, and business leaders already know: high-quality, full-day, formula-funded pre-K is an early crucial step toward stronger schools, communities, economies, and citizenries.
